TURNER/LUPIA CHANGE OF COMMAND (12min 40sec) On July 26, 1968, while on station in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War, Captain Stansfield Turner (Horne's 1st CO) was Relieved by Captain Archy Lupia (Horne's 2nd CO). USS HORNE ASSISTS IN FIRST MIG KILL (12min 12sec) In the summer of 1968, USS Horne directed two US F-8H fighters to intercept and destroy an enemy Mig-21 that had just taken off from it's base in North Vietnam. Horne's CIC officer is call sign Raider/Red Crown. Rootbeer 1 & 2 are the US F-8s. Fox 1 & 2 are the codenames for the Sidewinder missiles.1010-011 is a US tanker. After the kill, Horne assists in directing the refueling operation of the two US fighters which are extremely low on fuel. (Compliments of Plankowner IC2 Ron Joly. In Horne 1966-1968.) |
